چکیده

Block and Marschak (1960, in Olkin et al. (Eds.), Contributions to probability and statistics (pp. 97-132). Stanford, CA: Stanford Univ. Press) discussed the relationship between a probability distribution over the strict linear rankings on a finite set C and a family of jointly distributed random variables indexed by C. The present paper generalizes the concept of random variable (random utility) representations to m-ary relations. It specifies conditions on a finite family of random variables that are sufficient to construct a probability distribution on a given collection of m-ary relations over the family's index set. Conversely, conditions are presented for a probability distribution on a collection of m-ary relations over a finite set C to induce (on a given sample space) a family of jointly distributed random variables indexed by C. Four random variable representations are discussed as illustrations of the general method. These are a semiorder model of approval voting, a probabilistic model for betweenness in magnitude judgments, a probabilistic model for political ranking data, and a probabilistic concatenation describing certainty equivalents for the joint receipt of gambles. The main theorems are compared to related results of Heyer and Niederee (1989, in E. E. Roskam (Ed.), Mathematical psychology in progress (pp. 99-112). Berlin: Springer-Verlag; 1992, Mathematical Social Sciences, 23, 31-44).

Application of fundamental relations on n-ary polygroups

The class of  $n$-ary polygroups is a certain subclass of $n$-ary hypergroups, a generalization of D{"o}rnte $n$-arygroups and  a generalization of polygroups. The$beta^*$-relation and the $gamma^*$-relation are the smallestequivalence relations on an $n$-ary polygroup $P$ such that$P/beta^*$ and $P/gamma^*$ are an $n$-ary group and acommutative $n$-ary group, respectively. We use the $beta^*$-...

Random DFAs over a Non-Unary Alphabet

This document gives a generalization on the alphabet size of the method that is described in Nicaud’s thesis for randomly generating complete DFAs. First we recall some properties of m-ary trees and we give a bijection between the set of m-ary trees and the set (m,n) of generalized n-tuples. We show that this bijection can be built on any prefix total order on Σ. Then we give the relations that...

Study of Random Biased d-ary Tries Model

Tries are the most popular data structure on strings. We can construct d-ary tries by using strings over an alphabet leading to d-ary tries. Throughout the paper we assume that strings stored in trie are generated by an appropriate memory less source. In this paper, with a special combinatorial approach we extend their analysis for average profiles to d-ary tries. We use this combinatorial appr...

Addition Operations on The Monadic Theories of Finite Structures

The results presented in this thesis are organized in two parts, both dealing with the logical properties of finite structures. In particular we will deal with the first order and monadic theories of finite structures. The first part deals with classes of finite structures constructible by addition operations on the monadic theories of the structures. The second part deals with the first order ...

Branches in random recursive k-ary trees

In this paper, using generalized {polya} urn models we find the expected value of the size of a branch in recursive $k$-ary trees. We also find the expectation of the number of nodes of a given outdegree in a branch of such trees.
